FLAG 101


1. Fabric

Flags are available in either Nylite or Durapoly. For prolonged outdoor use and image quality, Nylite is recommended. Durapoly is an economical alternative to Nylon. Nylite offers superior image quality and the highest strength-to-weight ratio, meaning the flag is strong enough to last and light enough to fly.

2. Colour

Colour accuracy and consistency is ensured by producing flags with reactive acid dyes for maximum durability and brilliance. Try to select darker colours so that it is more resistant to fade. Colour match using Pantone colours for the best colour accuracy through digital screen print.

3. Design

Flags are often flown at height and seen from distances. Hence, the most effective designs are simple and bold. Using contrasting colours also helps to enhance a flag’s visual impact. Include: Vector art provides crisp, quality prints to maintain an image's resolution.

4. Construction

Flags are double needle lock-stitched with a reinforced stitching at the fly-end. The header of the flag can be either be finished with Rope and Toggle, Grommets or an Open Sleeve.

5. Size

As a general rule, the length of the flag should be at least 1/4 of the flagpole height. Most residential wall mount flags are:

• 36” x 18”

• 54” x 27”

• 72” x 36”

Small industrial or commercial buildings generally fly a 72” x 36” flag on an 8 ft. wall mount pole.

Listed below are factors to consider on how to choose the right fabric for your flags and banners:

1. Fly-ability refers to how frequent the flag is used under all weather conditions and the wind velocity required to make the flag “flutter” Recommendation: Nylite

2. Colour Accuracy is a measure of how closely colours are reproduced to their intended shade Recommendation: Nylite

3. Colour Penetration is a measure of the depth and brilliance of the colour Recommendation: Nylite

4. Image quality is a measure of the accuracy and clarity of the image Recommendation: Nylite

5. Image retention determines how long an image remains fit to be shown on a flag or banner Recommendation: Nylite

6. Durability indicates how long the flag remains fit to be shown Recommendation: Nylite or Durapoly

7. Greying Resistance measures how prone light or white colours are to fade or turn grey • Recommendation: Nylite

Nylon does not absorb a lot of moisture and dries quickly when wet, which makes it an ideal fabric to use for flags at locations where moderate to heavy rain, is to be anticipated.

The following suggestions will assist you in obtaining full value from your flag:

• Where possible, a flag should be taken down every night.

• If soiled a flag may be safely hand washed in cold water, using any domestic soap or detergent that does not contain bleach and then spread out to dry – either towel dry or air dry .

• When a flag is wet, it is heavier and adds more weight that stresses the fibers of the material.

• If slightly frayed or torn, a flag should be repaired at once, it could help save the cost of a new flag.

• Never store a wet or damp flag, spread it out until dry .

No flag should be raised higher than the National Flag. All other flags should be flown at the same height.

• When two or more than three flags are flown together, the National flag should be on the left, as seen by spectators. Whenever three flags are flown the National flag should be in the middle.

• When crossed with another flag, the National Flag is on the flag’s right (reader’s left) with the staff over that of the other flag (Insert image) .

• When provincial and territorial flags are flown or displayed along a wall, placement is based on the date of entry into Confederation of the provinces and territories. In a grouping of flags that includes the National Flag of Canada and all of the flags of the provinces and territories, the order of precedence is:

• Prices, terms and shipping charges will be those specified on our quotation.

• On shipments within Canada, G.S.T. , H.S.T. and Provincial Sales Taxes will be shown and charged separately where proper exemption certificates are not supplied.

• All clerical errors are subject to correction .

• A 10% plus or minus (+/- 10%) quantity variance on custom products may take place after inspection. Flying Colours International (FCI) reserves the right to invoice for this variance.

• All custom print orders are contingent on receipt and acceptance of suitable artwork. If not camera ready, additional costs for clean-up may apply and be quoted prior to proceeding with production.

• FCI will not be responsible for damaged, narrow or faulty incoming greige goods.

• FCI will not be responsible for damage to customer’s goods sent to us for further processing. It is agreed and understood that in no event will our liability exceed the agreed charge for processing.

• All FCI created artwork will remain the property of FCI for the exclusive use of the client for whom it was created.

• All make and hold orders must specify a date and quantity of initial shipment. Delivery of the entire shipment must be accepted no later than 90 days after ship date at which point the goods will be invoiced whether released or not.

• FCI shall not be liable under any circumstances for any loss or damage consequential or otherwise caused directly or indirectly by any delay in the delivery of goods.

• Title will pass to you, and our responsibility for any loss or damage ceases upon delivery of merchandise to the common carrier.

• Customer must notify FCI directly in writing if product covered by an invoice is not received within 10 days of the invoice date.

• All claims for shortages, faulty or damaged goods must be reported within 7 days upon receipt and the related packing list noted as to the discrepancies and other pertinent information.

• No returns or refunds will be accepted on custom products, cut yardage or any goods that have been cut, covered or altered in any way from their original state.

• No returns or refunds will be accepted on any goods without a Return Authorization Number RAN) and any goods thereby returned will be shipped freight/cartage prepaid.
Note: A 20% restocking charge will apply to the value of goods.

• FCI will not be responsible or liable for any application or use of or to which the products delivered hereunder may be put, either simply or in combination with other products or materials is understood that our liability will, in no event, exceed the purchase price. FCI provides no warranty, expressed or implied, regarding the suitability of its products for any specific purpose.
